Serious and Frightful Accident - Those who have traveled from Quincy to Indian Valley will remember that between the crossing of Spanish and Indian creeks is a cut through the point of the mountain known as the "Summit". From here, on the Indian Valley side, the road has a gradual descent along the side of the mountain, with a fall, below the grade of from 500 to 1,000 feet, into the river. This place was on Friday the scene of an accident which bid fair for a while to be fatal to some six or seven persons. Mr. T. Kelly and wife, with two children, a little girl named Maggie Robinson, Jas. Becraft and Dick Carter made a wagon load who had been to Quincy to the Odd Fellows' celebration, and were on the way to their home at Crescent. A short distance from this Summit, Becraft, who was driving, accidentally dropped a line, and it fell to the ground. The horses took fright and started on a rapid run down the grade. From the best informaton we can get, everyone jumped or were thrown out before the wagon turned over, but the pace was so rapid and the grade so narrow that they were all more or less injured. Mr. Kelly was terribly bruised about the face and head, and Mrs. Kelly severely injured in the back and hips. Maggie Robinson struck heavily on her head and was unconscious for some time. It is thought that she will recover, but for a time her case was considered critical. Becraft and Dick were slightly injured, but not seriously enough to disable them. Mr. Kelly's little children were not hurt in the least, Dr. Matthews, of Greenville, was behind them on the road, and was soon notified of the disaster and in attendance. Theywere taken to Martin's at Shoo Fly, and everything possible done for their relief and comfort. We are glad to learn that they are all improving, and now in a fair way to recover. The wagon was broken badly, and one horse supposed to be injured so as to ruin him.

J. F. Becraft and daughter May were over from Barnes Valley last Friday. While here Mr. Becraft met his brother W.R. Becraft, who lately arrived in this section. It was the first meeting of the brothers in a period of fifty-five years, and it is unnecessary to say that they were both happy as they grasped hands and thought of boyhood days. Both gentleman are on the shady side of life, and have much to talk about when each cover the reminiscences of his life during that more than half century of parting. J.F. took W.R. with him to his pleasant home in Barnes Valley, where the great talk no doubt continues. The stranger brother will spend the winter in Oregon.

In Indian Valley, Sept. 29th, 1878, Mrs. Rebecca Ann Becraft, aged 43 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Mrs. Becraft was a native of the State of Indiana. Her parents moved to Missouri in 1840, and there she became acquainted with and married Jas. T. Becraft. In 1853, the gold fever attracting them westward, her husband, in company with her father and family, moved to California, making a homje in Indian Valley, in this county, where, we believe, they have ever since resided. She was a woman of strong feelings and sympathies, a good neighbor, and had a host of friends who will sorrow for her decease and mourn with her bereaved husband and children. She was a victim of organic disease of the heart, and was called away suddenly -- in fact, without a moment's notice or warning, but her sorrow-stricken relatives can comfort themselves with the memory that she was one that needed no preparation, for her record was clear -- she was always ready.
