• Her obituary was published. Watervliet Record February 23, 1894, Vol 12, No 52
Ida, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Becraft, died last Friday morning from the effects of scarlet fever, aged about two and one-half years. The deceased was a lovely child, and the parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
Also contributed by S. Renno, The Watervliet Record of March 2, 1894, Vol 13, No 1, published two poems in Ida's memory that were written by local residents.
Gone is our birdling, our hearts they are
breaking;
Ida our darling is with us no more.
Alas, when the birdlings appear in the
springtime
Her sweet voice can mingle with theirs
nevermore.
For the portals of heaven were standing
ajar
And her sweet spirit was wafted within,
Methinks she could see the bright vision
from afar
And the angels in waiting to usher her
in.
The dear heavenly Father was there to
receive her.
For large are his mansions in heaven so
grand.
Of such is his kingdom, sayeth the Savior,
And she's resting so sweetly in heavenly land.
A dear little Angel in heaven to greet us,
Methinks I can see her beckoning hand
When some sweet day she gladly will
meet us
We may rest with our darling in the
Heavenly land.
God grant we shall meet her, that is our
ambition;
To some day behold our darling again.
At home with our birdling with joy and
fruition
If we do our duty here, we at last shall
attain.
---Mrs. F. A. Woodruff.
Wee hands at rest forevermore!
Two dimpled, peachy cheeks
Whose rich blossoming is o'er!
Death has closed her sparkling eyes
That will never smile or weep.
Little Ida's gone to sleep.
There's another bud removed
Ere it felt the blight of sin.
Through the door the angel made
Darling Ida has passed in.
Far beyond the azure skies
Where the tiny star eyes peep
From all death's sad doubts and fears,
Little Ida's gone to sleep.
She will wake in fairer land
Where the angel voices sing.
There the floweret shall expand,
There shall love perfection bring.
She has reached the golden shore;
Through the river cold and deep
Angels bore her safely there.
Little Ida's gone to sleep.
