Mary Becraft Dies

Mrs Mary Becraft, 82, 116 W 2nd St, died at her home, at 5:45 pm Saturday after an illness of five years. She had lived in Peru for 45 years.

Born Aug 17, 1872 in Greentown, she was the daughter of Henry and Jane Hughes Cowger. Her first marriage was in 1892, to Charles Clymer, who is deceased.

In 1915, she was married to Harlan Becraft, who survives.

Surviving, besides the husband, are one brother, Elmer Cowger of Mansfield, OH, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, four brothers, and three sisters are deceased.

Services will be held at 10 am Tuesday at the Drake-Flowers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Avery W Miley in charge. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery, Kokomo. Friends may call at the funeral home.

In 1880, at the age of 17, Harlan was still single and living with his parents in Utica, Oneida Co., NY. At that time, he was employed as a tailor. In 1886, Harlan and Mary were married at the home of the bride by Rev. M. Wells. It was a double wedding; Mary's sister, Katie J. was married to Frank J. Kretz on the same day, at the same place. After the wedding, Harlan and Mary lived in Utica where Harlan worked as a teamster, and then as a life insurance agent. Sometime between 1891 and 1900, they moved to Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY. Mary can be found on the 1910 Syracuse census with her three children. Her marital status is "married", but Harlan is not listed in the household. Between 1900 and 1920 Harlan moved to Howard County, Indiana. In 1920 he was living there with his 2nd wife and was a hotelkeeper. In 1930, Harlan and Mary still lived in Center Township, Kokomo City, Howard Co., Indiana. Harlan was employed as a newspaper salesman and Mary lodged boarders at 1
