James Brook died at his home in Ewing Township yesterday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock. The deceased had been in poor health for ___ years and his advanced age was against his rallying. He was in his 80th year. The funeral will take place from his late home on Wednesday afternoon. Services over the remains will be conducted by Rev Strother Jones, rector of St Michael's Episcopal Church and Rev E H Elder, pastor of Trinity M E Church. The interment will be in Mercer Cemetery. Mr Book was born near Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England February 17th 1820. He came to Trenton i 1840 and worked at a small woolen factory in East Trenton for some time. Soon after he bought the Saxony woolen mills and later bought the Phoenix Mills. He resided at Brookville for eleven years and erected a mill there. He not only was a mill owner and manufacturer, but conducted newspapers as well. At one time he was owner of the State Gazette and he also owned the Monitor newspaper. His business at the time of the rebellion is said to have amounted to $20,000 per week. Some years ago, while abroad, he purchased a big brewery in England and fitted it up as a livery stable. He also bought eight houses there. Mr Brook was twice married. He has several children, including Councilman Brook, who represented the Seventh Ward. Of late years, Mr Brook has not engaged in active business pursuits, but has lived a partially retired life on his Ewing estate.
