The funeral of R. Hayes Burdette, well known retired farmer of Clagettsville, took place Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Montgomery Methodist Protestant church, Clagetsville. Rev. H. O. Keen, of Baltimore, a former pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Stephen Galley. A large gathering of friends and relatives attended. The floral emblems were numerous and beautiful. Pallbearers were: Hubert P. Burdette, Roger Burdette, H. Deets, Warfield, Franklin Pinkerton, Albert Burdette and Robert Etchison. Interment in adjoining cemetery. J. B. Beall, Inc., funeral director.

Mrs. Effie Becraft Burdette, widow of R. Hayes Burdette, died Thursday at the home of her brother, Jesse Becraft, near Claggettsville, with whom she had resided since the death of her husband about a year ago. She was aged 62 years. Death was due to diphtheria, with which Mrs. Burdette was stricken on Monday. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. James Hilton, Buckeystown, and Mrs. Elma Watkins, Port Deposit; two brothers, Bradley Becraft, Port Deposit, and Jesse Becraft. The body is at the funeral home in Damascus. Services will be private, will take place at Montgomery chapel at 11 o'clock Saturday morning. J.B. Beall, Inc., funeral directors.
