Douglas Russell Becraft, 86, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, in the Church Hill Health and Rehab Center. He was the son of the late Joseph R. and Helen Becraft and was born in the District of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Heflin Becraft and a daughter, Shirley Reed; his sisters, Katherine Irene, Helen, Ruth, Betty; brothers, George, Leonard, Maurice and Kenneth.
Mr. Douglas Becraft was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during the Korean War from 1948-1952. The main thing in life that made him most proud, was his family, who he loved dearly. He was a very hardworking man, delivering milk door-to door, and later delivering pastries. He enjoyed watching horse racing and visiting the horse track. He shared the same love of horses with his granddaughters and especially enjoyed watching them ride. He was happiest spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up. Our Dad had many other interests, to include bowling, bingo, english muffins and coffee from McDonalds, chocolate donuts, and any kind of sweet treats. He lovingly shared stories from his childhood, years in the Navy, marrying his wife, and raising his children.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Carol Scheuch (Stephen), of Kingsport, TN; Donna Scallion (Joseph) of Ellicott City, MD; Connie Becraft Coleman, of Mt. Airy, MD; his grandchildren, Allan, Kevin, Shelly, Tina, Doug, David, Amy, Brent and Katie.; his great grandchildren, Brittney, Cody, Ashley, Tyler, Mike, Bree, Skyler, Jayson, Grady, Annabelle, Penelope, Kaitlyn and Chance. He is also survived by his brothe,r Gordon Becraft Sr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 11 am ~ 12:30 pm, at which time a service to honor the life of Mr. Becraft will be conducted. The graveside service and interment will follow at 2:30 pm in the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
