A celebration of life service will be held April 13 for Clarabelle Edith "Claire" Cook of Eugene, who died April 5 of age-related causes. She was 79.

Cook was born July 7, 1922, in Modesto, Calif., to Alva and Anna Reichers Becraft. She grew up in Oakland, Calif., where she was an award-winning high school athlete in basketball, baseball and volleyball. During World War II, she was a semipro athlete.

She married Laurence Cook in Oakland, Calif., on Sept. 12, 1944.

After moving to Eugene in 1964, Cook worked 20 years as a loan officer at U.S. National Bank.

Her interests included traveling, camping and gardening. She belonged to Elks Lodge No. 357 and the Friendship Club, and was a member and past president of the Credit Women's Association.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gary and Douglas, both of Eugene, and Ronald of Troutdale; three brothers, Carl Becraft of Eugene, and Allan Becraft and Norman Becraft, both of Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Hudson of Oakland, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Saturday at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Saturday's service will be at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
