A 43-year-old man was killed Friday evening after he was hit by a car while riding his bike, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
Brent Becraft died in the accident, which happened at about 6:30 p.m. at Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lyons Road.
Deputies say Becraft was riding his Cannondale bike in the bicycle lane going north on Lyons Road. A 2008 Dodge van, driven by 51-year-old Rafael Perez, was headed west on Boynton Beach Boulevard.
Deputies said Becraft pedaled through a red light into the intersection and was hit by the van and tossed into the air. Becraft was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he died, deputies said.

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Brent Becraft, a 55-year-old resident of Boynton Beach, has died this evening at Delray Medical Center after he was struck by a car while riding his bike.
According to officials, just after 6:00 p.m. Becraft was riding north on Boynton Beach Blvd, approaching the intersection of Lyons Road in the bicycle lane.
While he was in the intersection, a 2008 Dodge Van, driven by Rafael Perez drove into the intersection slamming into Becraft. According to witnesses, Becraft flew through the air, landed and slid along the pavement before finally coming to a rest.
When Palm Beach County Fire Rescue units arrived on scene, they found Becraft clinging to life. First responders attempted to rush him to Delray Medical Center for treatment yet he succumbed to his injuries en-route and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Official police reports say that Perez, the driver of the van, did have the right of way and that Becraft failed to yield to the van when he entered the intersection.

Brent Edward Becraft, 43, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Coral Springs, Florida passed away due to injuries sustained from a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Lyons road in Boynton Beach.
Brent was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 29, 1969, son of Richard G. and Sandra (Lynch) Campbell. He was raised in Coral Springs where he graduated from Coral Springs High School. Brent first worked as an account manager with Southern Wine and Spirits. At the time of his death, Brent was an agent and financial planner with New York Life Insurance Company located in Sunrise, Florida.
He enjoyed life, outdoors and any kind of sports, but most of all loved being with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura (Pellegrino) Becraft, his two loving children, Sophia Marie, age 5 and Alexander James, age 2. Also survived by his father, Richard G. Becraft and his wife Trish Becraft, his mother, Sandra Campbell and her husband Jack Campbell, siblings, Andrea Becraft, Brian Becraft, and Terri and her husband Charlie Stewart, two nephews, Bryce and Tommy, his grandmothers, Patricia Lynch, Margaret Smith, and Carol Pellegrino and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation on Saturday, July 6th from 3:00 ~ 4:00 P.M. at the Fred Hunters University Drive Memorial Home, 2401 South University Drive. A funeral service at the funeral home will begin and 4:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be private.
