ONEONTA - Marvin Greiner Sr., 72, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the home of his daughter in Herkimer.
He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Franklin, the son of Harry and Mary (Walley) Greiner.
He married Avelyne May Becraft on May 1, 1948. She predeceased him on Dec. 16, 1999.
As a young boy, Marvin lived in Franklin.
After his marriage to Avelyne, he moved to Oneonta, where he lived up until his illness.
Marvin worked for a period of time for Wilson Roofing Co., and Ann Hamilton and Son. Before his retirement he was self-employed as a carpenter.
He was a member of Oneonta Moose Lodge #465.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Marvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Marvin is survived by one sister, Anna Ruling of Sidney; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Jim Haggerty of Herkimer, Linda and Charles Smith of Cedarville, Jacqueline Rutherford of Ilion and Peggy and Sonny Sheffler of Factoryville, Pa.; three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Melodie Greiner of Herkimer, Ernest and Cherylyn Greiner of Mount Vision and Marvin Greiner Jr. of Oneonta; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Marvin Greiner will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Mount Vision United Methodist Church, with Pastor Yoder officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Herkimer County Hospice Care, Inc., 301 N. Washington St., Herkimer, N.Y. 13350. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

ILION - Mrs. Avelyne Greiner, 71, of Ilion, and formerly of Oneonta died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica.
She was born May 14, 1928, in Norwich, the daughter of Waldo and Juna (Warner) Becraft.
She married Marvin Greiner on May 1, 1948. He survives her.
Avelyne lived in Norwich as a young girl, having come to the Oneonta area early in life.
She worked for the Oneonta Family Cleaners for 35 years. She enjoyed fishing.
Avelyne was so proud to finally have her own apartment in Ilion that when she was admitted into St. Elizabeth's Hospital she said, "God, please don't take me now for I have everything I have ever wanted."
She was also a member of the Oneonta Moose Club.
Avelyne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Greiner Sr. of Oneonta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Jim Haggerty of Herkimer, Linda and Charles Smith of Cedarville, Jacqueline Rutherford of Ilion, and Peggy and Sonny Shefler of Factoryville, Pa.; three sons, George Greiner of Herkimer, Ernest Greiner of Mount Vision and Marvin Greiner Jr. of Oneonta; two sisters, Hazel Beeching of New Berlin and Lillian Germaine of Albany; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Mount Vision United Methodist Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to either Herkimer Hospice Care Inc., 4277 Middlesettlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413 or to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Avelyne Greiner.
