DAVY, Blanche Ethel(nee Baycroft)
Of Kingston, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2001 at Leisureworld, Muskoka, in her 100th year. Predeceased by her brothers, Dewitt, Errol, Richard and Gordon. Blanche was the beloved wife of the late Norman John Davy; the loving mother of Joycelyn (Craig) Stewart, of Bracebridge; grandmother of Christopher Chataway (Calgary), Adam Chataway (Font Hill), David Stewart (Toronto) and James Stewart (Victoria). Born January 19th, 1902 in Beeton, Blanche spent her summer holidays from an early age at her family cottage on Gloucester Pool in Muskoka. After training as a lab technician, Blanche worked within the provincial government lab departments in Toronto, Orillia, and Kingston for twenty years. Moving from Toronto to Kingston in the early 40's, Blanche met Norman Davy. They married in September 1945 and shortly after, built and lived at #1 Kensington Avenue, summering at their cottage on the St. Lawrence. Blanche was an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer. She was a key figure for over twenty five years at the Hotel Dieu Hospital auxiliary/gift shop and at the Kingston Psychiatric Hospital auxiliary/tuckshop. As an avid lifelong painter, Blanche was well known by friends and associates for her oil landscape canvases and for her delicate floral watercolour paintings. She studied painting technique over the years and had several recognized exhibits in the Kingston area. Blanche traveled extensively over her lifetime, often on world cruises and transcontinental adventures. Her strong spirit, directness, independence, wonderful sense of humour, and enduring friendship were appreciated by many. The family will receive friends at the Robert J. Reid & Sons Funeral Home (613-548-7973) 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie St.) Kingston, Ontario on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2002 for 1 hour prior to the Memorial Service, which will be held in the ;Chapel on the Corner; at 10:30 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate contributions in her memory to the Canadian Red Cross and/or the Ontario Humane Society, Kingston.
