General Notes: Husband - Arthur George Waldreaon

Name revealed in papers left by Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Waldreaon) Schmeltz as "George Waldreaon." Further developed through NYC directories as "Arthur George Waldreaon," as well as marriage and death records of his children. Birthdate calculated from death record in New York City. Birth place not yet identified, but likely in or around London, as Ann, his wife, was born there. His obituary also closed with "London papers please copy," an indication that family and/or associates in that area would be interested to learn of his passing. The name Waldreaon was later shortened to "Waldron" by children and descendants. The name Waldreaon does not seem, however, to be real. It does not appear anywhere in English records or among others in America. As one who worked at the Bowery Theater in New York City, and as one who named his son "Acastos," after a character in 'Jason and the Argonauts,' it appears "Waldreaon" may have been a stage name.

General Notes: Wife - Ann Elizabeth Stocks

Ann's maiden name is given in many family records as "Stokes." However, her family's records in England are all given as "Stocks." Ann's birth and christening are found in the church records of St. James Westminster in London, England. Her death certificate from Brooklyn is in the NYC archives. Ann's sister, Eliza, was the key to finding the lineage. Eliza was mentioned in notes passed down by Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Waldreaon) Schmeltz. Mamie wrote that her grandmother's sister was "Nellie Stokes Faloon" who had a daughter, Helen. When the name "Eleanor Faloon" showed up among the Waldreaons in the records of New York's Allen St. Presbyterian Church in 2005, the search was on. Eleanor's address was given as 19 Forsyth Street (1867). The New York directory of 1866-1867 showed an "Eliza Fallon, widow James" at 19 Forsyth. This family emerged in the 1880 Census as well as the 1900 Census as "Faloon" and "Falloon." Eliza's death record opened the door, naming her father as "James Stocks" and her mother as "Catherine." The 1900 Census told us that her father (James) had been from Scotland. But Ann's and Eliza's death records, as well as Eliza's 1880 Census record said their father was from England. Ann Waldreaon's family's records had always noted her maiden name was Stokes or Stocks, with both variations receiving similar use. With this new information, both Ann Elizabeth's and Eliza's christenings were uncovered in the IGI records of the LDS Church, proving their relationship as sisters, both being daughters of James Stocks and Catherine Margaret Tench, which opened the line for two more generations. Mamie had everything right on this except the first name of her grandmother's sister. It wasn't "Nellie" (which is a nickname for Eleanor, Helen, Ellen, and Ellie), but Eliza. But she wasn't far off in her old age. It was the daughter Eleanor who was called Helen in the 1900 Census, and "Ellen" in other places. She could also have been rightly called "Nellie." Ann Elizabeth's death record gave her age as 77 years 6 months and 2 days, placing her birth at 21 November 1801. But her christening record shows that the death record was miscalculated by a year, or the person providing the information (probably son Eugene) was uncertain of her year of birth. She was actually born 21 November 1802.
