Died Feb. 20, 2002

Frederick Lee Staver of Corvallis died Feb. 20 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 90.

He was born in Portland to Myra Lee McFarlane and John F. Staver.

He served in the Navy as a pharmacist 1st class from March 1942 to October 1945. He attended the University of Oregon and received bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. He taught English at Oregon college of Education, now Western Oregon University, in Monmouth for two years before teaching at Oregon State University, where he retired in 1976 as professor emeritus after 19 years.

He married Louise M. Tinker in September 1943 in Charleston, S.C.

He was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Professors.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Madeleine Beecroft of Albany; son, Edward of Springfield; brother, Robert of Los Altos, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Private interment will be at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the Oregon Humane Society. DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
