Leonard â??Buckâ?? O. Roderick, 82 Nov 1937 - April 27th, 2020 Highlands Ranch, CO Leonard â??Buckâ?? Roderick left this world peacefully today, April 27th 2020, at Littleton Adventist Hospital after a long struggle with COVID-19. He was born in Decatur, IL, to Leonard Roderick, Jr. and Dorothy â??Dotâ?? (Bonds) Roderick. He is survived by his wife of 60+ years, Diana (Smith) Roderick, their dog Lily, his three children Greg Roderick, Mark Roderick, and Tammy (Roderick) Shirtz, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren â?? all living in Colorado. He is also survived by two sisters, Sandy Grant and Carolyn Shelton, both living in Colorado. Buck joined the Navy in 1954 (at the age of 17) as a gunnerâ??s mate and served four years with tours on the USS Antietam, the USS Coral Sea, and the USS Midway. After leaving the military, Buck married Diana in 1959 and spent over 50 years as an electrician, serving as an honorable member of the IBEW Operating Engineers Union, Locals 9 and 68. Buck was a fierce champion for unions and never missed a chance to persuade those around him to â??buy American.â?? After retirement Buck found contentment in a part-time job helping people at the Highlands Ranch Home Depot in the Electrical Department. He was an avid Broncos fan, an excellent craps player, and self-described aficionado of hot peppers, cold beer, and John Wayne. On any given day you could count on him wearing a pair of Leviâ??s, a button-down short-sleeve shirt, and sneakers â?? regardless of the occasion. Most important of all, Buck loved Colorado and he loved his family. Buck and Diana were regular members of Valley View Christian Church of Littleton, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to their church or any other charity of your choice in Buckâ??s name. Buckâ??s life will be celebrated at a date and place yet to be determined.
