William Earl Merryman,Sr. was born at home in Carroll Co.,Md. He married Rhoda Rosella Becraft and had 7 children by this marriage.
Willie, as he was called, left Rhoda while most of the children were still very young. He just decided to take off and no one knew where he went. Rhoda ran an ad in the paper. Hoping he would see it and come back home. But it was to no avail.
He later married a woman by the name of Ethel Rider. They had one child by this marriage. A son by the name of James Merryman. (Have not been able to make contact with him).
Later in his years he contacted his children by his first marriage and was not received with open arms. The years without contact had built up a lot of resentment for their father. His daughter Olivia took her father in and took care of him for he was very sick and needed help. She cared for him until he had to be put into a nursing home in Pikesville,Md. There he stayed until he died from resporitory arrest.
He was laid to rest at the cemetery at the New Oakland Church, in Carroll Co.,Md. His first wife Rhoda is also buried there but not with him.
He was also a Navy Seaman in the U.S. Navy.
