General Notes: Husband - James Fleming Stephenson

Son of Elliott and Jane Stevenson.
His parents, and an Uncle James Stevenson (Elliott's brother) came from Kentucky to this state in 1824, settling in Scott county. The Stevenson family was one of the largest colonies of relatives to settle in this area at the time.

Married Mary Eliza(Elizabeth) Johnston on April 1, 1851 in Morgan county, IL. according to Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. His obit in the newspaper has wife as Elizabeth Johnson.

They had nine children. At the time of his death four were surviving: Mrs. Emma Becraft of Jacksonville, IL; Mrs. Ida Smith of Chicago, IL; John Stevenson of Spokane, Washington; and Mrs. Agnes Perry of Peoria, IL.

Daughter of Nelson H. Johnston/Johnson and Mrs. John Gorham.
Her father died when she was an infant. Her mother remarried John Gorham.

Married James H. Stevenson on April 1, 1851 in Morgan County.
Survived by four children: Emma Stevenson of Jacksonville, Mrs. Ida S. Smith of Jacksonville, John G. Stevenson of Chicago, and Mrs. William Parry of Peoria; four half-sisters: Mrs. Laura Frazier of Homer, Mrs. Margaret McAhan, Mrs. Anna Benson, and Lou Gorham (which may have been Louise Gorham Pyatt) ; and a half-brother, Stephen Gorham.

(based on census data it appears they may have divorced before 1900.)
In her last Will and Testament, Will Book G page 103 in Morgan County, she left estate to two of her children, Mrs Ida S. Smith and Emma V. Stevenson. She stated she left out her older children, who ignored her in her troubles, but didn't state their names.

Her son, John Gorham Stevenson died on November 16, 1939 in Mountain Home, Idaho.
