Anne's father was a shepard in the Lincolnshire Area. She served with the Women's Land Army in WW1 and met her husband through her brother who served with Roy in the Army. After parting from her husband she worked as a cook in the lumber camps. She married Bill Samuel and together they worked as cooks in the camps in Northern Ontario. They also worked on the ships on the great lakes between Newfoundland and the USA. She was reunited with her son Ken after reading of Ronald's death in Hong Kong and seeing Ken listed as next of kin. She wrote to him and sent him a photograph of herself. She moved about so much that there is no records of her early life. The only papers she left was her marriage certificate to Bill Samuels in 1945.
