• His obituary was published in The Daily Review on 29 Mar 1904. The Daily Review--Decatur, Illinois--Tuesday, March 29, 1904 REV. J. WINTERBOTTOM--KNOWN TO MANY Joseph W. Winterbottom, who died Sunday at his home in Jacksonville, was known to many Methodists in this section. He joined the conference in Decatur in 1872. He preached at Alexander two years and was then sent to the Cisco Circuit, and in 1875 to Bement for two years, at the end which he was ordained an elder at the conference at Paris. He next preached at Virden three years and next at Mechanicsburg three years. He was at Taylorville in 1883-86, and then went to the Jacksonville neighborhood. DECATUR HERALD, Decatur, Illinois--Friday April 8, 1904---Rev. Joseph Wintebottom, aged 58 years, died at his home in Jacksonville of Bright's disease. Rev Winterbottom was pastor of the M.E. Church of this city several years ago. This information was supplied by a Gillham family descendant. Both sons, Joseph & James, changed the spelling of their last name to Winterbotham.
