• He published an intent to marry Oquawka Spectator on 7 Apr 1879. MARRIED... At the residence of S. Evans, near Keithburg, March 31 by Rev. H. Hanson, Mr. Benjamin Hutchinson to Mrs. Annie Grant.

We wish our friend, Col. Ben. many years of happiness with his fair bride, as was said of old, of another "Ben"...may his tribe increase.

• His obituary was published in the Monmouth Daily Review on 29 Jun 1896. The death of Benjamin Hutchinson occurred Friday night June 26. For a long time he has been sick with nervous prostration. The deceased was born Nov. 10, 1821, and was 74 years of age. When he was a mere boy his father moved to Oquawka, in 1832 or 33. (Was in 1833..F.H.) Afterwards he settled on the Capt. Hogue farm. He was quite a traveler. When a young man, he made an overland trip to California and visited the Pacific Coast. He returned by water, crossed the Isthmus and landed in New York. In 1854, he was united in marriage to Ann B. Moore in Iowa City, Iowa. Six children were born, all of whom are living, except one. In 1869, his wife died and in 1870 he was married to Elizabeth Grant. Two children were born, Anna and Ralph.

He was an intelligent man, did his own thinking and was possessed of a wonderful memory. He was a successful business man. His bible was much read and familiar to him. The funeral services were held from the residence, southwest of town, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, being conducted by Rev. Logan of Smith Creek. The remains were interred in Center Grove Cemetery.

(Note: Elizabeth Grant's maiden name was Evans. Evidently had been married to a Mr. Grant.).

• Her obituary was published in the Waterloo (IA) Evening Reporter on 12 Jan 1911. Dunkerton, Jan 11, 1911 Special
Mrs. Anna E. Hutchinson, aged 80 died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.W. Smith, three and one-half miles SE of Dunkerton. She had been in decline from maladies attendant upon old age but pneumonia was the direct cause of her death. The remains were taken to Kirkwood, IL for burial.

She had been in decline from maladies attendant upon old age, but pneumonia was the direct cause of her death. She was the second wife of Benjamin Hutchinson and the mother of Anna and Ralph Hutchinson. Her body was removed to Kirkwood, Illinois for burial in Center Grove Cemetery.

General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Ralph Hutchinson

Benjamin was the 4th son of James McCullen Gordon Hutchinson and Sarah Delemarter. His father was from County Antrim, Ireland and his mother was from Patterson, New Jersey. Ben was just a boy when his family moved to Oquawka in 1833.

When young man, he made an overland trip to California and visited the Pacific Coast. He returned by water, crosssed the Ismathus and landed in New York. In 1854 he married Anna Black Moore in Iowa City, Iowa. They had 6 children. In 1869, his wife died and he married Elizabeth Evans Grant. They had 2 children.

He was an intelligent man, did his own thinking and was possessed of a wonderful memory. He was a successful business man. His bible was much read and familiar to him.
He died on June 25, 1896. The funeral services were held from his residence southwest of town. He was burried in Center Grove Cemetery.
