• His obituary was published in The Times on 16 Dec 1938. James R. Hood died at his home near Sykesville Thursday, December 8, 1938, aged 82 years. He was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Becraft Hood of Mt. Airy. The deceased engaged in farming early in life and until his retirement had been a rural mail carrier. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Amelia Dorsey Hood, and the following children, Mrs. J. G. Trayer, Baltimore; Mrs. C. E. Browning, Frederick; Herman Hood, Washington, and L. D.Hood, Baltimore.

Mrs. Frances Amelia Hood, aged 81 years, nine months and twenty-seven days, died Sunday evening at her home in Hood's Mill, Carroll county. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Dorsey and the widow of James R. Hood. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Mary E. Trayer, Baltimore; Mrs. Golda Browning, Frederick; Herman Hood, Washington, D.C.; Dewey Hood, Baltimore. Sisters surviving are: Mrs. Mary Lowman, Mt. Airy; Mrs. Martha Haines, Boston; Mrs. Emma Clary, Woodlawn. Brothers surviving are: Albert Dorsey, Sykesville, and Levine Dorsey, Franklintown.
Funeral services will be conducted from the late residence today at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Charles Wallace officiating. Interment in Prospect cemetery near Mt. Airy. The body is at the Waltz funeral home, Winfield, until Tuesday morning.
