A longtime resident of Three Rivers Health Care Center in Painted Post passed away Wednesday afternoon January 15, 2003 following a long full life at the age of 107.
Born in the year of 1895 on February 1st in Elmira, Kathryn was the daughter of Walter and Sophia Doane. During her long life, which bridged three centuries, she was witness to many of the events stored in libraries and read in history books. She out lived three husbands and worked in food service as a waitress until she retired in the mid 1960's from the Stanton Diner in Corning. She was a former member of the American Legion Bentley Post #443 of Elmira. Kathryn was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Corning. Throughout her life, she enjoyed her family and time spent with her many friends.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Clara Vincent of Elmira; grandchildren, Gary (Mary) Vincent of Timonium, MD; great grandchildren, Jennifer & Dan MacKerchar of Churchville, PA and Jonathon Vincent of Morgantown, WV and Timonium, MD; a niece, Eleanor Sprague of Horseheads; and a nephew, George Weaver of Elmira; She is also survived by cherished friends, Phyllis & Sam Robinson of Corning. In addition to her parents and three husbands, Kathryn was predeceased by her son, Walter Vincent, in 1997.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport today, Friday January 17, 2003 from 11AM - 1 PM . Funeral services will follow visitation Friday afternoon (1PM) in the funeral chapel at Caywood's with the Reverend Patrick Haley officiating. Kathryn will be interred in the family plot of Woodlawn Cemetery following her funeral service.
