Sylvia Adiline Craven, known as "Addie," was born January 13, 1904, the daughter of Jasper Marion Craven and Effie Lelah Crowley. There are census records for 1910 confirming this and in 1920, Jasper, Effie, Addie and Hannah Crowley (Effie's mother) are living in Eola, Polk County, Oregon (west of Salem) and he is farming. Addie attended Salem High School, and there is a nice photo of her in the yearbook of 1922.
Addie married Roy Remington September 18, 1922, in Washington County, Oregon, probably in the Hillsboro/Beaverton area. The record is in Oregon Archives for marriages. Roy was employed by the State Highway Department, and in 1930 the census shows Roy, Adeline (spelling is always changing but the Adiline spelling is what she, herself, used) and their daughter Joan living at 2172 Chemeketa Street. They have a boarder, Catherine Pawtheren who works as a clerk at a dry cleaners.
On July 14, 1923, Roy and Addie's baby was stillborn and interred in Salem Pioneer Cemetery. Their second child, a daughter named Joan Lenore Remington, was born January 23, 1926, married Donald Edward Beecroft in 1947, and died May 13, 2012. Both are buried in Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
The 1940 census finds Roy, Addie, Joan (age 14) still living in Salem, joined by Addie's elderly parents Jasper and Effie Craven. At some point, Roy returns to the military and was discharged in 1946. Roy and Addie Remington were divorced prior to 1947. On April 6, 1947, Roy married his second wife, Palma Paulson, in Marion County, Oregon. That documentation is in the county records. Roy died on July 4, 1955 and is interred in Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
On January 13, 1947, Adiline Craven Remington was married to Karl Harry Nyberg in Vancouver, Washington. There is a certificate of this marriage although the transcriber insists on misreading his surname and interprets it as Uyberg, but it is clear from the handwriting the name is Nyberg. Addie and Karl spent their remaining years in the Salem area, dying fifteen years apart, Karl in 1965 and Addie in 1990. Their remains were cremated and their urns share a niche in Mount Crest Abbey Mausoleum in Salem.
