Richard E. Beecroft, 89, a Cumberland County journalist for six decades, died Wednesday morning at Cumberland Manor, Hopewell Township, Cumberland County. He had suffered problems resulting from congestive heart failure for 10 months. A Cumberland county resident most of his life, he lived in Bridgeton for 45 years before moving to Cumberland Manor in May. Richard E. Beecroft, 89, retired editor and columnist for the Bridgeton (N.J.) Evening News, died Sept. 22. During the course of his 45-year career with the Bridgeton paper (now the Bridgeton News), he served as sports editor, photographer, reporter, and editorial-page editor. His "Boating With Beecroft" column ran for 30 years until his retirement four years ago. Beecroft was the first president of the New Jersey Press Photographers Association.
