New York, March 4. John R. Beecroft, superintendent of the Century company is dead at Mount Vernon. He died in the Polyclinic hospital from the shock follwing an operation, for a broken leg due to an accident. Mr. Beecroft was born in Kent, England, in 1848 and came to this country about thirty years ago. he became indentified with the Century company about twenty-five years ago, and had since been the superintendent of its various publications. He was well known as a hymnologist, having compiled a number of works, the most prominent of which is his "In Excelsis," used extensively in the Protestant churches throughout the country. His home wa in Pelham Manor.
