Peter and Elizabeth lived in Schoharie, where all their children were born, until about 1840. On 24 November 1840 Peter bought property in Morehouseville from Andrew K. Morehouse and moved his family there. On 26 February 1842, Peter sold his property to two of his sons, Jacob Henry and Frederick, reserving the right to continue to occupy the house where he and his family lived. Seven years later, Peter, aged 50, died of Diabetes. He was laid to rest in Mountain Home Road Cemetery in Morehouseville. His widow, Elizabeth, continued to live in Morehouse until at least 1880.
