FLORA R. LEGGETT

Flora Rawls Leggett, 90, formerly of the 1000 block of Avalon Ave., a retired bookkeeper, died Dec. 10, 1995, in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Leggett was born in South Norfolk and was the widow of Chester Garland Leggett. She was a lifetime member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, the Winnie Heath Circle and Woman's Society of the church. She was a member and past president of First Senior Citizens Club, Chesapeake and member of South Norfolk Woman's Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne L. Beavers of Chesapeake, Betty L. Brickell and Mary V. Becraft, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Shirley R. Sayles of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Andrews. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will be at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary Becraft

Mary V. Becraft VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary "Ginny" Becraft, 79, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Becraft; her parents, Garland and Flora Leggett; and a sister, Jeanne Beavers. Ginny was a native of South Norfolk, Virginia, where she was very active and was happiest during her high school years at South Norfolk High School. During those years, she was a cheerleader and basketball player, and notably was selected as MVP of the basketball team her senior year; the senior superlatives listed her as "Best Dancer" in 1949. She was a longtime member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church and in later years, retired from the City of Chesapeake Senior Citizens Program as the arts, crafts and ceramics teacher. She was also a past president of South Norfolk Junior Women's Club. Her survivors include her children, Keith Hathaway and wife Karin, Kathryn Hathaway, Kerry Giles and husband David and Kay Carpineti and husband Richard; seven grandchildren, Tamara Hathaway, Kendall Hathaway, Jade Mohl and husband Jim, 2nd Lt. David Giles, Chelsea Giles, Logan Carpineti and Alanna Carpineti; a great-granddaughter, Kai Mohl; a sister, Betty Brickell; her stepchildren, Richard Becraft and wife Patricia, Steven Becraft and wife Sandra, and Sharon Bateman; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
