General:

David Garrett was a tenant farmer, sharecropper, or something similar, on the farm of Marcus Buck. Buck's were related to Dawson. If this was our Matilda, she could have been a servant in the Buck household when she became pregnant. That's what happened to Rebecca Shipe. She was working as a servant in a household when she became pregnant by Henry Harrison Mills.

There is a family tradition that the first wife of David Garrett was Mary Jennings. The marriage record has not survived. David is listed in Personal Property Tax Lists, Frederick Co., VA; 1819.
