Notes
General:
Thomas was married in England, but his first wife died while giving birth to twins. He later came to Canada and married Mary Jane Baycroft, in 1845. (excerpted from notes of G.K. Bennett)
Thomas, while doing chores, was kicked in the stomach by one of his cows. He died shortly after, from inflamation of the bowels, and othercomplications, as a result of his injuries. The inscription on his gravestone reads "In Death's cold arms lies sleeping here, a tender parent, a companion dear. In love he lived, in peace he died, his life was asked, but was denied."
One source of information (the notes of G.K. Bennett) showed them coming from "Beverley", Yorkshire, but Thomas' brother John's death notice gives place of burial as Mexborough, Yorkshire, a distance of about 7 milesfrom Barnsley, Yorkshire (as noted by Florence McColeman, as the place of origin in England).
