Dr. Robert Stephens Beecroft

Dr. Robert Stephens Beecroft, 79, a six-year Carson City resident, died Nov. 6, 2006, in Carson City. Dr. Beecroft was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Harry and Winnie Stephens Beecroft. His father Harry was one of the founders of Beecroft Cole & Company. He grew up in Topeka and attended Topeka High and Washburn University, and later the University of Iowa, where he received a Ph.D. in Psychology in 1954. He taught as a professor of psychology at universities around the United States, and later wrote short stories and screenplays. He retired in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II until 1946. Before moving to Carson City, Dr. Beecroft lived throughout the state of California. He was a Methodist and a past member of the American Psychological Association. He enjoyed traveling, music, writing and art collecting. Among his survivors are his daughters Kathy Lapeyre of Birch Bay, Wash., Beth Beecroft of Spokane, Wash., and Jennifer Polishook of San Francisco; sons Charlie Beecroft of Redding, Calif., and David Beecroft of San Francisco; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In accordance with Dr. Beecroft's wishes, all five of his children attended a private graveside service in Winnemucca, Nevada where he was buried on November 11th. Autumn Funerals and Cremations of Carson City handled the arrangements.
