Agnes B. Balzer

PARDEEVILLE - Agnes B. Balzer, 77, of Pardeeville, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011.

Aggie was born on March 9, 1934, in Poynette, the daughter of Carl and Ada Koenig Anderson. She married Edward J. Balzer in Dubuque, Iowa, on Oct. 30, 1953. Aggie left school in the ninth grade and was proud when she obtained her GED in 1981. Aggie worked at the Weyenberg Shoe Factory as a young woman. She was fond of motorcycle riding, fishing and deer hunting with her husband, Ed. After his passing, she enjoyed many years as the head banquet waitress for Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells, where she made numerable friends. Aggie was a strong-willed woman who fought several different cancers throughout her life - breast cancer at age 39, lung cancer twice between 1998 and 2001, and most recently throat/oral cancer and melanoma. Aggie loved tending her vegetable garden as her father had taught her. She always had beautiful flower gardens as well. She was especially happy when she was cooking a big meal for her family holiday dinners - Thanksgiving being her favorite.

Aggie is survived by her children, Linda (Phil) Possehl of Pardeeville and Gary (Leslie) Balzer of Pardeeville; her grandchildren, Michael Balzer, Casey (Trevor) McGonigle, Chris Possehl, Adam Cooper, Riley Balzer, and Chase Balzer, all of Pardeeville; her brothers and sisters, Mary Roundy, Inez (John) Gray, Lyle (Shirley) Anderson, Wayne (Donna) Anderson, and Sharon (Dennis) Grossman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends. Aggie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Balzer; her children, Judith "Jude" Cooper, Edward J. Balzer Jr.(stillborn), and Jill Balzer (stillborn); her brothers, Donald Anderson and Robert (Theresa) Anderson; her sister, Uva (Howard) Becraft; her parents; and her very special Pekingese canine companions, Missy and Candy.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wyocena Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday.

Aggie's family would like to express appreciation to her oncologists, her surgeons, her primary-care physician and their staffs. A special thanks to all of Aggie's friends for all the time, help, friendship and genuine concern they have given mom over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Aggie's name to the American Cancer Society.
