Jun [blank day], 1744 from Joyce Gladstone, Peter Becraft, & Mary his wife, of Annarundel County, planters (which Mary was daughter and heiress of James Gladstone, late of PG, decd, by the afd Joyce), to the Revd Jacob Henderson of PG, Clk, for 8 pounds sterling, all that piece, part, or parcel of land called the Ridge, being part of a tract of land called the Cattail Meadow, bounded by a white oak of John Anderson's standing on the west side of the sd land called the Cattail Meadow (situated in PG and in the NE line of a tract of land belonging to Robert Tyler called Brough, then to a tract of land called Ample Grange, now in possession of John Boyd's heirs, containing about 33 acres. In the name of God Amen, the tenth day of February in the year of our Lord 1779 I Peter Becraft of Frederick County of the state of Maryland Planter being very weake of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die I do make and --- this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and commend my... into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I commend it to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the desecration of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Power of Almighty God as to --- uching such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give and divise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
He leaves everything including land, four slavs, house, old furniture, moveable flock to Mary his wife for her lifetime unless she remarries for her care and the care of his helpless children, James, Peter and Joice who do not have sufficient share of sense to manage and care for themselves. I direct and appoint them to be under the management and care of Mary my wife and Daniel James my good friend. To daughter Elizabeth 100 acres of "Dispute" during her lifetime and at her death to be used for the support of my helpless children.
I bequeath to my granddaughter Mary Mockbee, Rebeckah Mockbee, Peter Mockbee, William Mockbee 50 acres each of Dispute after the death of my wife and helpless children. To grandson Joshua Mockbee one negro and to granddaughter one negro after the death of my wife and helpless children.
I do give and bequeath unto my dear friend Daniel James for the grate trust and confidence that I have ---- in him, all my above bequeathed lands, negroes goods and chatles at the decrease of my wife and helpless children.
I appoint Mary, my dear wife, Mary, and my beloved friend Daniel James as my sole executors.
