Mead S. Becraft, 57, Bridgman city clerk, died at 1:15 pm Friday in Memorial hospital, where he was admitted March 1 for surgery.

Prominent Bridgman Served As City Clerk
Mead S. Becraft, 57, Bridgman city clerk, died at 1:15 pm Friday in Memorial hospital, where he was admitted March 1 for surgery.

Mr. Becraft, who was a prominent resident of Bridgman, was purchasing agent for the Gast Manufacturing company, Benton Harbor, and had been with that company for 24 years.

He was born Oct. 29, 1895 in Watervliet and married the former Myrtle Zick at her home in Bridgman, June 3, 1923. The couple resided in Bridgman all their married life.

Mr. Becraft had served as city clerk for a number of years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion post 331, Bridgman. He also belonged to Henry Chamberlain lodge 308, F.& A.M., Watervliet; the Berrien county Low Twelve club, the Economic club of Southwestern Michigan, and the Olivet Congregational church. He was a former deacon of the church and at one time served on the church board...

Survivors include his widow, Myrtle; sisters, Mrs. W. J. Lambert of Lansing, Mrs. A. F. Frazee of Dowagiac and Miss Charlotte Becraft of Chicago; and four nieces and nephews...

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Bridgman.
